Activity Sheets = Class Party Time Fillers
As room moms, we’re always looking for fun, interactive activities for kids to do at class parties (hello time fillers!). If you saw our Halloween activity, you’ll know that I really dropped the ball at our last class party..
Long story short, we had loads of extra time after the planned snacks and games were complete. Yikes!
It was a bit of a disaster. I’ll admit that. So, I’m determined to never let that happen to any other room parents!!
Holiday-themed worksheets are the perfect party “insurance” in case you’re left with a gap of time and no backup plan. Plus, this autumn activity is actually fun, so students will enjoy this one whether they complete it at the class party or at home after the social gathering is over.
Why I Spy is Such a Great Activity For Kids
“I spy with my little eye…”
I Spy is a fun game I play with my daughter anytime we have to wait patiently. Standing in line at the store, stuck in traffic, or waiting at the doctors office are all perfect opportunties for a friendly game of I Spy.
She’s so accustom to this routine that she never complains about having to wait anywhere. Instead, she’ll just ask, “Mom, can we play I Spy?”
I’ve always loved playing this game. Growing up, my siblings and I adored the famous I Spy books by Walter Wick and Jean Marzollo. After solving the riddles, we would create our own list of things to find on the page to keep the game going.
It’s no surprise that the classic game of I Spy and the I Spy books are touted with lots of developmental benefits including pattern recognition, vocabulary development, and much more. Who knew kids could learn while playing such a fun game?!
So, of course, I needed to create a Thanksgiving I Spy activity printable. 😁
How to Play I Spy (Thanksgiving Style)
This I Spy worksheet was inspired by the colorful Thanksgiving Day dinner table. I created 2 versions for you: one for coloring, and one just for spying the objects.
Both options are completely free! Look for the Download buttons in this post.
Each activity page includes an area filled with Thanksgiving-themed items including pumpkin pie, corn on the cob, shiny red apples, and of course, lots turkey!
The object of the game is to find each item on the list at the bottom of the page and fill in the correct number.
Materials Needed
First, you’ll need to download and print the I Spy activity PDF by clicking the button below the worksheet.
Next, it’s time to gather coloring tools. My favorite is color pencils, but you can use crayons, markers or even gel pens. The more autumn colors, the better!
Start by identifying and coloring the object that stands out most to you on the page. This is very subjective, and for me, it was the pumpkins, so I’ll use them as the example. Color all the pumpkins you can find on the page.
Now, count the pumpkins and write the number in the blank next to the pumpkin. (P.S. The answer key for this worksheet is included later in the post!)
Once you’ve double-checked your work, choose another color and another item on the list. I chose a brown color pencil and colored in all of the (cooked) turkeys next.
Repeat the same process above until all 16 items have been found, colored, and accounted for.
Now, check your answers using the answer key below:
What Ages Can Use This I Spy Worksheet?
This Thanksgiving I Spy activity sheet is perfect for ages 6 and up (even adults can enjoy this one!).
For room moms and teachers, you know your children and students best, but we think this sheet would be great for 1st grade and up. Younger children may need more assistance finding each item, so working on the sheet as a group may be a good idea for lower grades.
Full Color Printable PDF
If you’re hosting a Thanksgiving celebration at your home (or maybe your kiddo just isn’t into coloring so much), you can download the full color version of this Thanksgiving I Spy page.
This colorful activity page will liven up the kids’ table and give children a chance to seek and find each item with their siblings and/or cousins.
Conclusion
I hope you enjoyed this Thanksgiving I Spy printable as much as I enjoyed creating it for you! Feel free to share the free printable with fellow moms and teachers who need a fun activity for their kids or students.
